I Need Help with My Roses

Posted by gregj Brisbane Aust (My Page) on

I am from Brisbane.

I have been away for last 2 weeks and on my return I find my roses, I believe, are dying.

The majority (say 90-95%)of the leaves are brown and falling off on all of my 13 rose bushes. Stems of the bushes are dark brown looking too.

Can anyone tell me what the problem is or is it maybe lack of water - if this is the case should I prune the bushes right back then.

Looking forward to your replies.

Greg

PS The roses are approx 6 years old too.

RE: I Need Help with My Roses

Well Greg, I am probably the last person to offer advice, but I am very concerned that you have not received any replies to the plight of your roses. My thoughts are these. Were the roses fully watered before you went away? If so, I wouldn't think two weeks without water would kill them. Therefore, I, being a novice but fairly sensible would be a bit inclined to cut them right back, checking the condition of the stem before getting too carried away, and give them a really good watering. Good luck. The other thing, and I hate to harp on this, a friend has a major problem with curl grubs eating the roots of the roses and someone suggested confidor granules????? Marnie

Sorry to hear that Greg.
If the stems are going brown as well could it be some sort of virus?
Is it possible to post a photo?
It would help.
Is there any new growth at all?
I would take a sample to a rose nursery and ask about it.They would be my first port of call.
Good Luck
cheers
Michelle
