should I worry about these plants

When I hosed off the saw dust the stems of the roses did not look too healthy, there was a bit of bluish stuff and also some white and the bark was loose and peeled.
Should I keep them or return them to Big W. ?

Or would a bath in fungicide do the trick ?

With that severe damage to the bark I would return them as the overall health and vitality of the plants will be affected.

Thank you Sandie, I thought I would have to take them back.
I am so disappointed as it is my first time with roses, now I have to wonder if I will get them replaced or forget about them.
I guess I was lucky with the Bonica and Peace as they were lovely and healthy.

I would also take them back the big chain stores are very good about exchanging things those ones you bought are ring barked from rot I think & will probably never grow when you change them try to choose ones that are still quite green & if they have shoots better that they have not gone pink I think from artifisial light good luck

Not good enough!!! I might accept them if they had been marked down drastically, but not at full price. They may have more of the same variety for an exchange. I think you were pretty unlucky to cop two bad ones. Please don't be put off by the experience!
Cheers,
Dee.

Ashmeri-you HAVE to take them back for a refund.
The store needs to know that their supplier is providing them with inferior damaged goods.
These roses look like they have been mutilated badly-maybe in the digging process.
If you don't take them back then the supplier will get to do the same thing next time and the next.
If you exchange for other roses-then check that area where these are damaged and make sure your new ones are intact.
If they are all the same then go for a refund.

marion....these plants from the damage your photo shows will do just fine...i know it's not what other people are saying...but it's true...however...would I accept it?....no......if these plants went through my grading table..they would wind up on the burning pile(keep in mind i can;t see root system or top growth).....not beacause they wouldn't grow...but because they don't present well.
