Hello again everyone,

Thought I would take a picture of the plant I bought and the packet it is in.
I am really hoping that it is a bush and not a climber but I guess Image hosted by Photobucket.com
I will have to wait till it floImage hosted by Photobucket.comwers.

It does say "climbing" - that will look lovely coming up the lovely trellis that I saw on one of your posts. But it may be big - Lozza will know.

I hope it is the genuine climber. I lost mine when it decided to revert to a bush. The genuine climber behaves like a climber, not a big shrub like Spray Cecile Brunner with elongated its serrated sepals and blooms without button eye and little fragrance.

RE: Cecille Brunner

Over the years I have bought 'climbing Cecile Brunner' several times only to have it turn out to be 'Spray Cecile Brunner'except for once when i got the small bush version of Cecile Brunner.I STILL don't have 'climbing Cecile Brunner'.
Only recently in Australia have we adopted the name 'Spray Cecile Brunner'.Before that we knew it as Bloomfield Abundance.
Dna tests have proven the SCB is a sport of the bush form and that Bloomfield Abundance is now thought extinct. It apparently have larger flowers than SCB and a different form.
Spray Cecile Brunner does have a peppery perfume and for a tough situation can't be beat.It grows so easily and quickly from cuttings that I have had it grow from a pile of prunings. It can also be kept tidy looking by regular pruning. It has massive sprays of flowers and does it almost all year through.

Note the elongated sepals on 'SCB' aka 'Bloomfield Abundance'

Thanks you for the pictures, Sandie.
I will be watching the plant like a boiling kettle, hope it doesn't take too long to set some flowers for me, then we will know, hopefully.
Quite exciting , this rose growing, every time I see a different one I think, Oh a pot of that will look good there ", and then I think of the water and El Nino andwalk on.

RE: Cecille Brunner

marion...i guess you'll find out in a couple of years or so....if stays about 2' tall....it's the bush....if it hovers around 8' tall its the climber..always a bit of a gamble unless your buying through someone who knows!?....lozza if you want some clg budwood in nov let me know...tony

RE: Cecille Brunner

Brenton-you say 'If it hovers around 8' tall it is the climber'?I don't think so.Climbing Cecile Brunner is a very vigorous climber.
The 8' tall CB is the SHRUB once known as Bloomfield Abundance-now known as Spray Cecile Brunner.
This confusion is rampant amongst rose growers in Australia-that's why after several attempts to get Climbing Cecile Brunner from different sources I STILL haven't got it-I always get Bloomfield Abundance aka Spray Cecile Brunner.
It isn't hard to tell them apart.

Roseman-the DNA testing is happening in America-I don't know who is conducting it.Maybe a google search? Or maybe Lozza knows.

RE: Cecille Brunner

Hi David-he probably would be up on it-I think I read the article linked from the american rose forum several months ago-Lozza and Malcolm Manners were discussing the Bloomfield Abundance/Spray Cecile Brunner thing and the link was to an article about the DNA testing.Sorry I can't help you more-I tried to find the article by googling but it turned into a rabbit warren as it usually does.:)
I will try to find more info for you-Lozza seems to have gone awol again-he would know.

Back again Sandie, I'll give you a ring in a minute. Yes, it is Malcolm manners of Florida State Uni. or maybe Florida Sth Uni. that has done the testing, and seems to be engaged in that activity with lots of roses. I guess my style puts him off for he seems to resist opening up to me. Yeah the 8' hovering worries me too. Definitely not Cl.Cecile Brunner. Check out Sandie's photos. Check the sepals, there's the difference.
