Unwanted Roses

Hi, We have just moved into our new house and have grand schemes for the front garden, none of which include the existing rose garden.

Can anyone tell me if there is a market for second hand roses. there are 3 or 4 plants that are six foot high and probably a dozen that are 1-2 foot high. dont ask me what variety they are as I have no idea.

Thanks

RE: Unwanted Roses

You might consider relocating them to another spot in the garden or pots. Some grafted roses just don't thrive after the ten years or so and are short lived perennials or long lived annuals so they may be past their prime.

Roses don't tend to be happy if they're dug up and left to dry out so moving them needs a short timeframe before they are put back into the soil, so think local. I guess you could dig them up, prune down the larger ones a little, pot them and then stick up a give away sign or for sale note in the local corner shop if you just can't bear to see them wasted. WInter is ideal for moving them. Getting the 6 foot ones out might make a bit of a hash of their root system but the smaller ones may be successful. It would be a bit sad to see them on the heap. Best wishes.

You could try advertising them in the Quokka - it's free!
