Rosebuds being chewed - pest question

Posted by purpledaisy (My Page) on

I've been trying to identify what is eating my rose buds.
Does anyone know what chews through the different layers of a small unopened bud. It is usually only one side but often kills the bud.

Sometimes there is a clear brownish liquid around the damage.

There is never a culprit around to squish and I'd like to know who it is so I can deal with it somehow organically.

Thanks
Susie
p.s. I can post a photo if that would help.

I've had the same problem over the years.i think it's a small spiderand i have used white oil which seems to work. Then again it could be some other pest that the oil kills.
we also have possum trouble that causes larger type damage
good luck
