| I've just had the thought to grow garlic chives around my roses to keep the possums and wallabies away.
I'm pretty sure they don't like to nibble on this easy to grow herb, which incidently I also find too strong for culinary use. These chives/bulbs make quite a large bush of fine strappy leaves which wouldn't look out of place as a border around the beds and all summer they have sweet mauve/pink flowers on long stalks that the bees love. If you're thinking it sounds abit desperate, you might be right. Anyone tried this sort of thing to keep pests out of the rose beds? Bye for now |

| Might- I have garlic chives right along my rose bed and have never noticed that one plant could protect another. I am in the country and the birds love my David Austins, pigs love digging anywhere and rabbits and roos would chew the last leaf if I gave them half a chance. I have a dog and a cat too - they keep most of the nuisances away. I also found fruit tree netting useful. Just cut into useful size squares and drape over your bushes. Guaranteed nothing will disturb them after that ! By the way in case you are a bird lover like myself - my cat doesn't attack the parrots that chew my roses to pieces - she just lies around sleeping. Couldn't care less about the birds because she is too well fed but I think they aren't game to test the water in case ! |

| Ihave garlic chives in the back bed - but also no possums. My guess is that possums are like my ponies - NOTHING will stand in their way of a great mouthful of roses, thorns and leaves - they see it as caviar! |
