I have small ants destroying buds on some of my roses. When I dead head I get them all over me. Any clues please as to why this is happening?

Aphids and ants usually go together. Do you have aphids as well? If you do, then getting rid of the aphids will probably get rid of the ants.

Hi Wrenroses,
It is definitely not the ants eating your rosebuds, it is bound to be aphids. The ants are after the secretions of the aphids. Spray the aphids with soapy water (soap not detergent) or a garlic spray or a pyrethrum spray. Another alternative is to squash them with your fingers...a bit icky but it's free.
Cheers, Dee.

Hi Lizzy and Dee,
Many thanks for your advice. I will spray for aphids.
