Climbing roses

| Hi, is there a rose that is the equivalent of Crepuscule in white? I've tried Climbing Iceberg and I find it a bit mean with flowers. I suppose Lamarque would be too vigorous, wouldn't it? I want something with Crepuscule's growth habits. |

| Hi Barbara, My one year old Lamarque is a monster already with many canes at least 3m long...I wouldn't compare it to Crepuscule in habit. But I do love it! Devoniensis would be a chance but very large thorns if it's covering an archway..There is Aimee Vibert but she has fairly strong canes more for a fencleline. I noticed in 'The Rose Garden',SA, catalogue they advertise a 'White Pillar' - 1958 which goes to about 2m with white double blooms. Might be more to your liking. regards Garry |

My Aimee Vibert hasn't strong canes, she' fairly slim built in that department, no teeth and needs support up the archway, flowers her head off from November onwards.. I got her form Silkie Gardens years ago, so I am pretty sure she's the right rose... |

| I looked her up and she seems the one to get. I'll check her in a few books too. It's to go on a fenceline at my son's home and he wants to have a red growing through it. I've seen the red he like and I think it's Bloomfield Courage. Do you think that would overpower Aimee Vibert if they were grown together? |

Bloomfield Courage is a very vigorous rambler used to cover large structures,I think he will squash poor Aimee!Has one big spring flush ,spot flowering later and hips.I've seen a picture of the one at David Rushton's ,its EnormouS ! Pam. |

| I just love Aimee Vibert - it is doing very well for me, but I have heavy clay soil. Only problem here is that our gazebo is listing badly and will have to be pulled out, so Aimee has to find a new home (in MY garden) |

I'd possibly get AC's Editor Stewart to plant through her, maybe a couple.. the blooms would go perfectly if you want red. If not why not Pinkie? NEVER stops flowering is a mass at present, and I have seen it up the verandah of a cottage in Kilmore and it's a show stopper. |
duh!

Barb another hting to do and easy from where you are is to plant Clematis through the rose... I planted a dark blue to flower through it and it looks lovely.. if you descide on doing this - hey why not do it anyway even if you do plant the roses.. make sure it's NOT an early flowering clemmie as Aimee VB flowers from about November on, still well in flower here, hasn't stopped since it started five months ago. |

Hi Fran, I have clematis growing through my climbing roses, but Peter and Carol have seen a garden with red and white roses. I went and had a look and they were Iceberg and Bloomfield Courage. OK for now but it won't work in the long run. I wonder what she'd think of Altissimo with Aimee Vibert. It might be too bright a red. How large does Pinkie grow? |

It's not huge..sort of same haibt at Aimee VB.. the cottage in Kilmore had it up to the eaves. Bloomfield Courage is only a spring flowerer isn't it? Which is why I suggested Editor Stewart, plus I love it's curvy petals.. But then again, what's the red climber with the five feet long name that everyone says is marvellous. It's in one of the last year's catalogues.. I will search it out.. |
