I am trying to diversify away from DAs, so I thought I would give Sonia Rykiel a go. Treloars has got her in, so I thought I might have a drive down to Baxter and pick one up - hmf's pictures are just gorgeous.

Has anyone grown her before? Recommendations? Criticisms?

I like this rose. I know I live in a different climate etc but I think it is a good rose. When I first visited GW there was criticism about this being a lanky floppy rose. It also does get BS badly at times but mine keeps bouncing back and sending out plenty of blooms. Some things you should know about my conditions, humidity ++++, unreliable rainfall - major restrictions therefore I don't fertilise as often as I should nor do I water (unless the roses look like they are about to die - I know it's not recommended but I have clay and with the heavy summer storms it seems to keep the garden going). I'm also a lazy pruner but I think this has allowed Sonia to develop a support structure for herself. The blooms are magnificent, definitely worth a go.

I have Sonia Rykiel and I love it. I am in Melbourne. She is a long and lanky grower and she is two years old now and this is her best year. So I will say, she needs a year to settle in . Great colour - light pink centre and darker outside. Lovely perfume!

Well I finally got some - they had already been heavily pruned back at Treloar's, but I hope they settle into their big pots happily. They both have a bit of BS on them - but I am hoping that the end of our sultry summer will end it.

Would she be ok as a cut flower? Or is she too floppy to make any kind of display?
