DA's love foliar feeding

I'm sure this won't be news to a lot of you long time rose growers, but I have discovered that all my roses and ESPECIALLY DA'S love a mixture of Charlie Carp, Power Feed or Seasol with approx 2 tbsp Bicarb of Soda (for powdery mildew and black spot) to four litres of water, sprayed over their leaves every couple of weeks. My DA's show new growth almost immediately, indeed, they seem to love this more than feeding to their roots.

No I did not know that, Thanks for the tip as my Mary Rose suffers from
Powdery mildew a black spot something terrible, and yes I have been feeding the roots seasol.
So will try your tip and see how it and all of my roses go.
Cheers......MM.

I feed all of my roses either Charlie Carp or Seasol. Last year I faithfully fed my roses once a month but one downside was that the foliage on the roses was lush and disease free, but I didn't get as many flowers. This year I am gving them a good feed every 6 to 8 weeks with better results all round.Mistymorn I love the idea of putting some carb soda in with the the spray as black spot can run rife up here. Our cooler summer has meant a wonderful flowering display, and not so much spraying for diseases.

Dumb question. What measurement of Charlie and Power feed or Seasol do you use in your sprayer?

Hi Tich, to about four litres of water add about 4 capfuls of Charlie Carp or Power Feed and same amount of Seasol. Don't forget the Bi-carb, it really does help, especially with powdery mildew. Along with spraying every couple of weeks, unless its too hot or raining, I still feed my roses to the roots with whatever rose food is going after every flush. I try to vary the food each time. I also use Sulphate of Potash and Epsom Salts to the roots - this last lot happens a bit spasmodically, by the time I do all of the above, I'm pooped o-)

Thanks so much for that - I sprayed my roses recently with Rose Nitrosol and Bicarb - I now have white splotches all over the leaves - has anyone else found that happens? I hadn't thought of using Epsom Salts on my roses - must give it a try.

I don't recall having white splotches, maybe you need to mix everything up more thoroughly. Before adding Bi-carb, mix it with a bit of water, then add to your other stuff

Thankyou. I will have a go over the Easter break. I have all the ingredients so will give it a try.

Sorry, I am a bit confused, do you mix Charlie Carp with Power feed or do you mix all 3 together. Charlie Carp, Power Feed AND Seasol.

I agree with the seasoil..I don't know how it works, but it's working superbly with my David Austin's "Heritage". No signs of disease.
