My Red Intuition is suffering dieback

Posted by Lotsaroses none (My Page) on

When I first planted my red intuition one of the canes died back. Later on when I moved it to another spot it was alright for a while but now the other cane is started to die as well. I think I'm going to lose it. Is there anyway to stop it or will it survive? I don't know whether to leave it or dig it up to make room for another rose. I'm fairly new at growing roses.

thanks

Sorry to hear about your rose but his year, for the first time in over 50 years of rose growing a lot of my shoots that I cut back last June have died off. I think it might be due to the lack of good rain but all you can do is cut off the dead bits and hope it will re-generate. Roses are very strong and even though you think they will not survive, they do. Don't feed them when they are not doing well. Wait until they recover then give them a bit of food.

Thanks for the advice, I was tempted to get rid of it but I'll hang on and see what happens, but I should of mention I'm in Queensland, plenty of rain for the last few months then we ended up in floods though I was very fortunate not to be in the affected areas. I wondered if it was a trait with this rose being originally a florist rose even though this tagged a garden one

Have a look at Mary Ann's photos she is Mistymorn on this site, she is now a Queenslander and has really good experience with growing all sorts up there, including roses,
