black boy climber

I have 3mtx3mt trellis freestanding outside my ensuite bathroom window.
I bought a black boy climbing rose as a bagged rose in winter. The rose is absolutely covered the trellis widthways and height ways, unbelievably vigorous growth.
HOWEVER! not a single bud or flower.
Is this unusual for a rose bought as a dormant bare root not to have had a single bud.
Also, do I now cut the canes that have grown above the height of this huge trellis? The rose seems possesed. |

It is a climber, so it may take 2 years before you get the frist blooms. Don't cut it yet -- only after 3-4 years. Leave it as is. ..... The trick with climbers is that's it's best to buy established plants in pots, one or two years old. Then when you plant them they'll bloom almost straight away. Just water them really well. ..... - Tom |

Thankyou Tom! Advice duly noted. Too late to go back now. I will leave it to its own devices, be patient and eagerly await blooms in next several years. I now feverishly hope that it was correctly labelled, very few of the other roses I bought have been. Fingers crossed. |

| Don't worry HappyJacq if it's not the real deal I've got two I can send you some cuttings from. Sounds like a good healthy plant regardless.. Cheers Garry |

| Thankyou Garry, that is very kind offer. Lucky you to have 2 of them, I truly love this climber, a nice old fashioned looking rose. |
