hello forum,

A local nursery has a number of discunted David Austin Roses for sale. I have already purchased "The Reeve" but I am curious to know more about "Lady hillingdon" and "Benjamin Britten". Does anybody know these varieties? are they fragrant?
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Adam

Hi Adam,

I'm from WA too. And i grow a quite a few of David Austin roses.Unfortunately I don't grow the roses you mentioned.

But Sharifa Asma has a wonderful scent. And also I don'
t think Lady Hillingdon is a Austin rose.

Lady Hillingdon is a Tea rose. I am copying this from a old catalogue. Lowe 1910. Popular since introduction, this outstanding rose has long pointed rich yolk yellow buds opening to large blousey, semi double rich creamy flowers with a lovely perfume. Glossy, dark purplish green foilage on a relatively thornless bush with plum coloured stems. Continuously flowering and good cutting. 1.2 x 0.6.
Also a climbing version of it, 4.5 x 2.5.
I have own root of Benjamin Britten. It has grown into a big or tall spreading bush, has always got some blooms on it I reckon. In another catalogue it says it has a intesely fruity fragrance. I will remember to smell it next time. It has a cupped red with a touch of orange bloom. Its a good rose and I am glad I have it in my roses infront of my house, I can see it through a window. Will post a photo of it latter if I can.

Maybe a bit late to be chiming in on this thread, but I have Lady Hillingdon and she's a wonderful rose. Plenty of flowers, as easy care as may be. Delightful.
