Sparrieshoop Fragrance

I bought a Sparrieshoop and she has had several lovely flowers - but contrary to the label and what the internet has to say, she has forgot to put on a fragrance! There is nothing! I have had several other people have a sniff, but they cannot smell anything either. Has anyone else had this problem?

That rose has a slight fragrance, but for my nose it's quite pleasing. I like it a lot. It reminds me of honey and almonds. But generally, yes, people say it has only slight fragrance.
Also, you can't judge its fragrance in hot Aussie summers. Wait till autumn.

Fragrance in some roses is a constant thing-doesn't matter what time of year or day etc.
Others are transient and depend on the age of the plant, season, time of day etc.
I had Mme Isaac Pereire for 2 years before I smelled her perfume and she is reputed to be the strongest smelling rose around! She needs age before her perfume develops.
Keep sniffing away and some day you will discover the perfume. :)

That favourable little note about Mme Isaac Pereire is very old, maybe as old as Mme Isaac Pereire herself, and is just circulating in books and magazines for decades. Since then, the world has seen thousands of new roses. I believe today we have roses that are equally or even more fragrant than Mme Isaac Pereire. At least dozen come to my mind.
I hope time will come when the rose fragrance will be re-examined, and also new classes of roses introduced and recognised.
