Ash Wednesday-climber

Original name is Aschermittwoch.
This rose is classed as a once bloomer but since becoming established it repeats reliably for me.
The bloom form and colour I find fascinating.
The form is very old world and the colour changes amazing.
Sometimes brown, tan, ash, pale violet or cream or combinations of those colours. One of my favourites
He is a very vigorous and tough rose that I imagine would do well anywhere.
To me he is sort of halfway between a climber and a rambler
and could climb trees or be espaliered on a high fence.
LOTS of thorns!

Sandie, I know it's classified LCl, but it's never been more than a shrub for me. Yes, it's fragrant. My favourite funeral parlour colour I call it. Very interesting rose wonderfully captured.

Here is a link that might be useful: My take.

Thanks everyone-
Kate- I am new to the digital camera and still trying to find my way-I have hundreds of pics on my computer waiting to be resized and compressed-I plan to keep only the best ones.
Hazel-To me it has a slight but fresh fragrance-don't ask me about perfume 'notes'I only know if I swoon it is a heady wonderful fragrance and if I don't then it is medium to average. :)
Lozza-I initially saw Aschermittwock at a large rose nursery in Perth-there it was grown as a shrub/climber planted on a trellis and allowed to climb but the rest of the plant not on the trellis was kept as a shrub.I fell in love with it immediately.Unusual colours really appeal to me and most roses of this colouring are weak in constitution but this one is tough and vigorous.
I think it would be a versatile rose-climber or large shrub.

Hello, im from the states and i have been wondering about whether or not i should plant this here in my texas zone 9a garden. the hottest temperatures we recieve here are about 100 degrees F but it is usually only a couple days per summer and it drops doback down into the 90s by the next day. Im right on the coast(about 5 miles inland) and the relative humidity is always about 95%. I was basically just wondering how hot and humid this rose would be before it became living trash.
