Craft ideas for Dust Bunnies?

I am really into recycling ya know?I have all these great patterns for knitting and crocheting plastic shopping bags into hats, scarves, handbags, slippers and floor rugs so I keep stockpiling the bags thinking that one day I will get around to making wonderful creations from them.
I stockpile lots of other stuff as well thinking that someday it will come in handy or I will get inspiration to turn stuff into works of art.
At the moment I have dust bunnies stockpiled under the beds, under assorted furniture and sometimes some escapees that run around the floors.
I keep wracking my brains trying to figure out how they can be used creatively-maybe turned into felt?Maybe spun into yarn?Maybe embellished with a little belly-button fluff?(very hard to come by though I do have a really small supply)
So I was wondering-does anyone out there have any crafty ideas?
regards
sandie

Hi Sandie
If you're into crochet, there ar lots of things you can make:

Rugs
Heavy duty tote bags
Place mats
Toys

Never treid it myself, but I believe this is how it works.

Flatten out the bag. Cut off the top portion (handles) and bottom seamed portion. Then cut into strips about 2cm wide (approx the width of a ruler). These will be sort of circular when you unfold them. Join them by opening up one circle and feeding another strip through the circle and
then through itself. Roll in a ball.

If you have community newspapers delivered, chances are they will be wrapped in smaller bags.

Cut them into strips using a rotary cutter and ruler. Then insert small slits at the ends of each strip. Link them together by feeding one strip through another strip and then
back through itself to lock them together. It is suggested you use double strands when crocheting, as the plastic tends to stretch.

Here is a link that might be useful: Plastic Bag Links

Sandie, I've wracked my brains and can't think of a single thing that you could use Dust Bunnies for.

I did - accidently - decorate my little black terrier-type dog with them once. She did look kinda cute but they wouldn't stay on, especially the ones on her nose. She sneezed and away they went!

Surely, SOMEONE out there can think of something creative for a Dust Bunny.

Just re-read your msg Sandie, and of course you already have lots of patterns etc for crocheting plastic bags - so just ignore my post.

But I was wondering what 'Dust Bunnies' are exactly... especially after what Annie said in her reply! Am I missing something?

Me too - what on earth are dust bunnies? The visual picture defies description.

LOL!Dust bunnies are the little fluffy objects that gather under your bed, under furniture,in the corners of rooms etc.unless you are vigilant at vacuuming.
Look the devil made me do it okay?
Annie's post on 'what do you do when you aren't gardening' started me off.She mentioned dust bunnies and I think lots of people who garden have them because we would rather be outside than inside doing the housework.:)Well I know I do.

Sorry friends-I wasn't serious-an obviously bad attempt at
humour.People do say my sense of humour is a bit whacky...

The thing is Sandie - can you really be bothered collecting them all? If you can do that much, then they are great additions to the compost heap, or can be used to stuff plastic bags, to make kneeling cushions for the garden :-)
Cheers, Jan

Ummmmmm.........kneeling cushions for the garden??

Now that's a thought!

and I don't have to go "collecting" mine, they come down the hall all on their own. :))

Here too! If only house work was 1/2 as much fun as gardening, and even 1/4 as productive, then I would do mine.

Not exactly a craft idea, more a crafty idea.Thought I might stuff my Ug boots with them. No,not the good pair,I mean the old tatty winter gardening ones with holes in the toes.
Pam.

But that wouldn't work on my DH's Ugg boots because he has holes in the toes of both of them and the dust bunnies could escape out the holes and we're back to where we started.

and he won't let me throw them out because he likes them like that....says it allows a little ventilation in.

Men.....go figure, eh?

Not just males,Annie! But mine are strictly for gardening and remain outdoors, not because I'm a spic and span type lol but because there are enough things on the floor to trip over already!

RE: Craft ideas for Dust Bunnies?

I have sort of decided to knit mittens and scarves from the dust bunnies.
Will sell them in only the most exclusive boutiques of course at a VERY high price.
:)

What about a few touristy pictures? Snow Scene at Bondi?
Smog at The Gold Coast? Winter scene at Alice Springs?
Snow on The Harbour Bridge? (;)
Pam.
