I've had a running battle with barley grass over many years,Bev, and Roundup has helped , as well as getting rid of single plants before they start to seed. I think I've won some battles but the barley grass has won the war. Daz. |

| i think i heard this grass is a problem in the wheat growing areas in wa? where it is becoming roundup resistant due to over and indiscriminate spraying apparently. one wheat farmer said he gets good control running sheep between crops of wheat like in a rotation. wonder if sheep or better still goats would help beverley, the way i see it stopping the plant from seeding would have to be a high priority. don't know how well involved this is on bev's 5 acres but maybe it could even be possible to get out there every week or so with a brush cutter and cut the stuff down to ground level and keep it that way, this could cause a die back type scenerio where other grasses take over and strangle it out? would attacking it with a flame gun help? thinking out loud here huh. if there isn't that many individual plants cut it right down and put a thick layer of mulch over it, i kill lots of grasses and weeds this way even use newspaper then mulch. maybe do this after the goats have been in, bet you could borrow a couple of goats from someone? if not feed a couple up for your own table. happy new year len mail len lens garden page |
