Very sick Mango tree!

Our Mango tree is about 10 years old and last year around feb/march we were blessed with the best ever crop. Consequently we thinned out the tree, which had become too tall to manage. Now our tree is VERY sick!!! It weeps a caramel sap all over, the small amount of regrowth is shriveling up or blackened on the leaf ends AND now there are small little holes ALL OVER the branches or woody areas(2mm diameter)!
In our drought conditions and heavy water restrictions, I did stick a pipe in around the roots a few times, just to give it a drink. HOPE I haven't killed it.
PLEASE HELP SAVE OUR ONE AND ONLY FRUIT TREE.
Thanks,
Graham and Robyn Hindson

According to my book on mangoes, you have mango tip borer.
The indications are blackened young growth.
It says to spray with 'methidathion'.
Sounds like your tree is stressed which is always when bugs attack. Check your nutrition/feeding & watering practices.
I can give you more info if needed. regards

RE: Very sick Mango tree!

According to my local nursery,(I'm near Macksville) a form of root-rot is the problem. I had the same problem with mine (it killed them) and with an Avocado, and also a red cedar, (killed them as well) There is a spray which you can apply, but it was too late for mine.
Sorry if I depressed you :)
