sappy pest problem

| I have several variegated leafed pittosporums and noticed a scale like pest on the small branches that seems to promote heavy sap-leaking where the pest is attacking the branch, and the tree/shrub is suffering badly. White coloured scale-type but with no hard shell. Can anyone ID and suggest remedy?

I think it's called 'soft scale' and I do't know of any remedy, Allan...........Are ants in attendance? If they are, controlling the ants may offer some relief. I'd be trying a garlic spray, or a white oil solution, or both, blended in your kitchen from cooking oil and water( I can't find my recipe - try about 6 drops in a l of water and shake or blend well) then spray affected parts........It may work and can't harm anything. | If it is soft scale & it sounds like it is, wait until Mum has finished the washing grab a bucket & pour the soapy washing water over the plants making sure both sides of the leaves are soaked. |
