Borers in my plum tree

Hi, I'm advised by pest controller we have borer ants in our plum tree...am wondering if anyone else has suffered from them, is there a treatment to get rid of them. Was advised we may to get rid of the tree. We have a 14-month-old boy so I am averse to using chemicals around the place... Thanks

I am a bit confused with the term 'borer ants' There are termites which are sometimes called 'white ants' and then there are borers which are the young of either certain types of moths or beetles. Or did he mean ants which are in the tree after there has been borer activity?.........Cheers, Dee.

If they are just borers, Try getting them out with a piece of wire, if not out of reach.------ Squirt a few drops of metho or kero into the hole then putty it up to prevent water entering..............Sorry I have never heard of borer ants either. Cheers..MM
