Avocado's in Melbourne

Posted by BigSteps SE Melbourne (My Page) on

Howdy,

Any advice as to what is eating the new leaves on the Hass Avocado that we have just planted. There are very small black things on the leaves, which I take to be Pear & Cherry slug of some type??

It is planted in Mushroom Compost with a bit of the original potting soil receiving 5 hours of direct sunlight daily.

I hit it with some Pyrethrum on the weekend and I will monitor it to see how things go.

Ah Gardening...so much to learn...

As it turns out, the Avocado wasnt being eaten by anything, it just needed some protection from the wind, so I've put a bit of wire around it with some shade cloth and voila, it is now going great. We have new leaves sprouting every day, so hopefully in 5 or so years we may have our first "Mexican" Avocado to share.
