Wondering if anybody els is having trouble with earwigs in roses etc. Live in the wimmera and we've had a good spring rains.Could this be a cause of the increase in earwig population? How does one get rid of earwigs without harming other things?

A bit hard to get the horrible things without killing everything else. You could try laying down some black plastic or a wet hessian bag over some damp concrete paving, then come back after a few days and squoosh them. But you have to be fast because they buggar off quickly when disturbed.

Earwigs can be 'trapped' in a mixture of equal parts of veg-oil soy sauce and brown sugar or molasses Put it in shallow dishes around the rose bushes. If you have dogs, they will eat it to! Another way to trap them is to put loosely rolled up newspaper around for them to go into. Tip into a bucket of hot water early mornings. You will be surprised how many you get! Joylene.
