Cyclamen mites

After reading about cyclamen mites I decided maybe that was what my two potteds had since the leaf stems would twist in all ways. I've dug them out of the tall planters they were in - is it safe to replant into the same potting mix?? Should I drench the soil with "something" or simply not plant out for a week or two perhaps??

Carole, these very small mites (0.2mm) are not in your soil but are on your plants....apparently they congregate in the leaf and flower buds...
Control is said to be extremely difficult...because of the protection offered by the buds....My book tells me to try spraying with difocol (15%) at the rate of 3mL per litre of water.....and use an additional wetting agent so that the chemical will spread thoroughly around buds and small leaves
Omethoate (Folimat) is also a suitable chemical.....and yes I would drench my potting mix with boiling water or something.......if re-using it is an option
Good huntin'.

Daz.

RE: Cyclamen mites

Thanks Daz for your reply here. I may not have explained too clearly but it was my intention to discard the cyclamens entirely and to replant in the same pots with something different. My hubby Des drenched the potting medium with Malathion just in case there was anything left in there.
