PS to Hmmm I wonder.

I went to see how my jonquils were doing. Not there!!! I felt like the man in the song about the missing French Horn. Those #####$$$@@@*** snails had eaten all the leaves. Just a faint reminder left. I was putting out baits so will need to do it earlier next year. If anyone can tell me how to keep them off!!!! It's the small ones now. I have put containers of salt water everywhere with bricks or other stuff and balanced the pots on top. Till now my bulbs have been ignored, but I did see something else affected. Cat litter works to a certain extent, quassia the same but too expensive.

I use the brown snail pellets (Multiguard), contain iron compounds and are supposed to be pet and bird friendly. I supposed if you're still worried you could use them in margarine containers.

I've heard copper strips around the favoured plants helps keep snails off too but sounds expensive!

I have never had a problems with snails until just recently and have only just started using Multiguard. Marie, is it working? I also breed dogs, and welcome any feedback that it is 'friendly' to pets.

have any of you tryied coffee grounds arond the plans or spraying the plansts with coffee (cold not hot)the dont seem to like that
you can set a beer trap for them as well sink a half full container of beer in the gareden and the little guys get so pissed they drown

RE: PS to Hmmm I wonder.

The small conical snails dont take snail baits, they still die if they come in contact with them tho.
You could spray with a copper based fungicide, that fixes snails

RE: PS to Hmmm I wonder.

I really do sympathise. One day I had 10 little basil seedlings, the next day - one. Rotten swines - sorry, snails! They are even eating the pea plants sprouting from the mulch. I've started using Multiguard big time. My cats aren't interested in it, the birds ignore it and the snails die die DIE, wicked chuckle :)).

Buy it by the bag, it's cheaper.
