$60 worth of aconophora

I've recently noticed aconophora, the so called lantana bug, on plants in several nurseries. A $60 'Giesha girl' was covered in the things! I suspect I unwittingly introduced this pest into my garden via a pot plant.

Amelie I'm sure there are still some nursery people out there who don;t know the bad news. But I doubt that you brought them home that way the adults tend to "ping off" when disturbed. Your bugs probably just flew in as mine have, after decimating every fiddlewood within cooee
I even found an adult on the car window when I went to a shopping centre the other day, they do "get around"
I am very reluctant to spray as I have quite a lot of "good" lady-birds in the garden munching up the aphids.
I have given "Neighbourhood watch" a new meaning by doing up a flyer and dropping in in letterboxes of those whose GG's and fiddle-woods are obviously hosting considerable colonies, all about to move on for other pickings.

Yes Alison, I've seen infestations everywhere - most recently my children's school. They haven't been treated. Terrific idea to deliver flyers!
I can't help but check out every duranta I pass - more often than not they have 'the bug'.
I know fiddlewoods are in the pest category, but I still feel for people who've had to remove a dead tree at their own expense with no choice in the matter - and an expense a lot may not be able to afford.
Have we heard if this bug is doing any lantana killing?

In a recent leaflet I got from Land For Wildlife the DPI apparently recommend using Neem Oil instead of the usual insecticides. From what I have been told Neem Oil is very expensive. They also claim they are only resting on your plants, not eating them.(Fiddlewoods, Lantana and a few other plants excepted)

Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

Doug.
