Does anyone know of a systemic insecticide I can obtain here in Australia that I can use on the borers that are starting to attack some of my trees and my beloved conifers.Regards Conifer_Nut.

Try getting them out with a piece of wire, if not out of reach.

Squirt a few drops of metho or kero into the hole then putty it up to prevent water entering.

A systemic insecticide wont work on Borers, you have to poke them with a peice of wire to kill them in their hole. They usually attack stressed plants so I would give your trees a good drink (Hose to slowly drip over a 24 hour period) and then a feed, not strong and hopefully it will bounce back. A tonic of comphry tea is excellent for a stressed or sick plant providing you have ample moisture in the sub soil.

Of course you could also add nuclear explosion or cluster bombing to the above list...apart from wiring them (a good solution...above...if there is only a few) you could try using something like vaseline or petroleum jelly and smear it over the entrance to their holes...this will suffocate them
Why is it people tend to go for the chemical solution all the time
cheers

We have an outbreak of European House Borers here in WA,they attack dead pinetrees and untreated pine timber.
Often the holes you see from borers are the exit wounds anyway
