nectren tree...

I have a old tree and in some spots it has what looks like sawdust and jelly, if you clean it of ther is some holes and trenches in the tree, how can i clean this up, I dont wont to lose the tree,

It sound like it could be borers. If you get some wire and poke it in the holes you can sometimes squash the little critters successfully.
It might help if you post your query on the Cornucopia Forum which deals with growing fruit and vegies. They'll surely be able to help you.
