| Hi all, i noticed the postings from 2002 re Little Gem problems, I planted 5 of them 2 years ago and they have grown beautifully(now6ft) but all of a sudden have lost one and am about to lose another- heartbreaking!!!! The leaves go brown from the bottom of the tree and then up to the top, death is quite swift. Have had the soil tested and drainage does not seem to be a problem, as I said, growing beautifully and almost always covered in blooms. I suppose my question is "did anyone discover what the problem was with their trees and were they able to solve it" any help much appreciated |

Magnolia 'Little Gem' has an extremely shallow root system. If you are digging around them or they are in too much competition with other plants they may suffer and be more prone to attack from disease. Cheers, Dee. |
