I have scale insects on my Bromeliads. Is it safe to control them with white oil? What alternative control measures can I take?

Don't use white oil, Troy.
Aroideana put me onto this recipe called "Dr Bob's Salad Dressing" by an Australian brom grower and scientist. I have not been as vigilant as I should have but coincidentally I just dug out the recipe again today as I'm breaking up my plants and determined to treat them properly this time.
It's based on Canola oil, is pretty simple to make, ignore the scientific stuff the crucial part is to mix with ammonia this time of year and be very careful to wash off and leave in bright light.
I am also going to try some systemic granules mixed in this time, and I think ant-rid powder could help. I'm a bit wary as the broms are a big home base for my frogs.
My suggestion though you won;t like it is that if any of course are really infested, either dump them or quarantine them somewhere in the hope of pups that you can separate and keep clean. Good luck, I sympathise.
