Hundreds of small holes in my lawn

I have hundreds of small dime size holes some even smaller all over my lawn. They are all over the place. I actually took a video of them and took it to my Garden shop and she was shocked that scared me. At first she thought Grubs but the weird thing is that the holes are only about an inch deep if that. Also I read up on Grubs and they don't come out until June so it is too soon for them. We have had these every year but this year is the worst. Of course where ever the holes are the grass is dead. I noticed my German Shepard is smelling over where the holes are today.

We have had about 5 days of heavy rain if that has anything to do with it. This is driving me crazy.

Oh I almost forgot I also just planted a very tiny little bouquet garden with seeds and all that is there is dirt and seeds but now alot of the buds are starting and they are also in there as well. They are leaving the buds alone but the holes are in the dirt as well. I am so upset about this. Please help me.

Any help would be GREAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks

Patti

Same thing here in Canada (Ontario) and it is April. A little too early for the insects although with the nicer weather they are starting to come out. My wife and I noticed 1000s of holes today in the lawn. Very weird and we were wondering what caused it as well. Hopefully the lawn will be healthy for the summer?

Same thing here in Michigan....all over my lawn, same description. It would be great if I knew what it is and how to fix it, before all of my lawn dies :(

Thank you for any advice you can give
