Can anyone help please with a home remedy for a frangipani which I thought had rust, but now seems to be getting a powdery mildew as well. The lilly pilly next to it also has a little mildew where it touches but in between is a cycad about 1 metre diameter and its showing mostly green now but was certainly sick before the rain some weeks ago. These plants don't get watered and I thought they may be stressed from not enough moisture, but the guy at the nursery thought it was probably too much humidity, had enough of that lately too!!! Would be extremely grateful for any thoughts on the subject. Marnie

Hi Marnie...I too have terrible rust on my plants where last year only the pink one had it, this year the red is covered with it also the pink and white though the fruit salad one is ok that one is in the sun all day, what surprised me was the new yellow one I bought mid January only 60 cms tall and with its first bud also has the same problem its in sun most of the day also with not much around it.. Have a look at the link below it more or less states the same thing as ..My book "What garden pest or disease is that" it gives this Organic control method for rust problems on other plants...The prompt removal of the first infected leaves may solve the problem.. Improve air circulation..Clean up infected leaves and burn.. So till next year when I will start as soon as possible .......Cheers..MM.

Thanks MM, had a big cleanup of leaves etc and can now see where we are going, have noticed othere frangi's in other yards since posting my query, seems we're not the only ones with this problem. So I will keep an eye out and see where we go from here. Hate having problem plants, just want everything to thrive and look good!! Marnie

Thank you Emily, I have been out there raking up yet more leaves this am to put in the bin before it goes, and the mildew is definitely on the cycad and probably spreading to the lillypilly as well. So I will try the milk starting at the weekend and see how it goes. The frangipani is still dropping leaves but there are not too many to go but the mildew is all over the trunk and branches anyway. Mind you, I'd much rather be doing something else. Thanks for your help, Marnie

Marnie you posted that you were going to try the milk remedy on April 27th. I was curious to know if it worked as our frangipani also has this problem as does many of the local trees around here. Our frangipani is very close to a bouganvillea, a lillypilly, our gorgeous Flamingo Grevillea and multiple smaller plants and I would not like to see this problem spread to the other plants as well. Please post back and let us know if the solution is making any effect on your plants.

My evergreen Frangipani had rust last yr and I sprayed it with White Oil and it was an instant fix. This yr it has returned, but the white oil didn't seem to work this time. I have it in a pot by the pool, gets a light constant breeze, and isn't really under any stress at all. So I'll be interested too in any answers that come your way :))
