destroyed lawn-ants now blackbirds

My lawn is infested with ant nests and I am continually using the ant sand type product but to no avail. Now the blackbirds are destroying whats left of my lawn. Tried the plastic bags, cd's, foil etc even plastic snakes. I am watching one out my window right now - because I yelled, he is hiding under a tree. I know as soon as I stop watching he will be back out there taking chunks out of my lawn. Please help - I have my house up for sale and I'm trying to keep everything neat, trim and tidy and I am not winning the battle. I'm starting to have murderous thoughts towards blackbirds and ants. I definitely need help!!!!!

I have been fighting ants for ages - I use the sand (not dust) and have managed to keep them fairly well under control - you just have to keep at them.

As for the blackbirds - my mother used rat traps hidden under the leaves where they scratch. The trap going off usually scares them away and they take a long while to return. Occasionally they die. Either way, you are getting rid of an introduced pest.

Thanks Robyn - I have 2 dogs so the rat traps wouldn't go down too well. And it seems perserverance is required with ants. I'll keep at them.
