jackmanii fought the gardenia and the gardenia won
Comments (2)I'd keep the gardenia over jackmanii myself. I'd just prune the clematis back and let it grow up into the sun as it wants too. A shrub in front of it should not bother it so much. Comments (9)Some of the photos make it look like caterpillar damage, and some of the photos look like tears. Since you're not seeing caterpillars, I suppose it could be weevils doing the damage. Many years ago my sister gave me a large potted plant and during winter I would see parts of leaves eaten on the plant. It took two winters of damage but I eventually found the culprit was some weevils. They are also more easily found at night! eta: you have said they are dry spots that eventually fall off. Comments (4)Thank you getgoing100_7b_nj for sharing your growing experience with us. I have also had my share of Gardenia growing blooob over the years. “I have lost count!” :-{ The common information from reading articles during the search are based on the writers experience. I believe the location of the writer also comes into play. Experience in culturing and location often varies. As we are aware, due to each individual environment, there are no fixed culturing methods that work for everyone. Looking forward to seeing updates....See Morechuck - missouri
