what is this bug?

Ive been noticing a few of these around lately, it looks just like a ladybird but instead of orange with black dots, this is black with two yellow dots on its back. would anyone know what this is?

Hi Trancegemini,
It sound like a type of ladybird to me. There are many types of ladybird but only one is a planteater. The rest eat things like aphids, mites, fungus etc., so are definitely considered friends of the garden! I'm pretty certain this one is a friend. The only two I know of that are black with yellow spots are mite eaters...so cherish this little critter!

thanks dee, at first I thought they were just weird ladybirds, but then I did a double take the other day and realised the colours of the body and dots were back to front so I started to wonder if it wasnt something sinister! LoL
