Rot at bottom of hippeastrum bulb

| My hippeastrum bulbs that I bought from ebay are rotting at the bottom. No new roots are growing. Is this because they are going through dormancy and I'm trying to revive the leafy bits when I shouldn't? Or is it that I'm watering it too much? I don't know much about these bulbs but know that they have pretty nice flowers! |

Judith, I think you are overwatering your Hippeastrums. Unfortunately, they may not recover. Dee. |

| Thanks Dee, Does that mean I should stop watering and hope for the best? Judith |

Judith, I'm not really sure. I think they would have to get some water from time to time, otherwise they will surely die of drought. Use you finger to determine if the soil is moist or not. Don't water until really necessary. Make sure it drains through freely and there is no water sitting in the saucer. I still wouldn't hold by breath though!! Good luck, Dee |
