pale green FAST butterfly

| What is this critter? It sits on many of my plants with its wings upright. Can't grab it ... it seems to see me coming from whatever direction. I'm assuming it's a butterfly, because that's what it looks like in repose. Quite small (about 1cm) and very pretty. No markings, just a lovely pale green. Now ... is this a pest? Should I be worried? It loves my wisteria, but is it doing damage? Any help would be greatly appreciated ... |

Its not Siphanta acuta (Green leaf hopper)is it? If it is then it usually doesn't do a lot of damage. (http://www.agric.nsw.gov.au/Hort/ascu/fulgor/siph06.htm) |

| Maybe ... but maybe not. The Very Fast Butterfly (VFB) is a much paler green and its wings are held upright, not flat to its body as on the website. Also, it definitely flies, not hops. Any other ideas? One wisteria leaf had a wart-like egg clump (I presume) _ does that help? Or is that something else again? |

| Hey Lomatia, I owe you an apology ... managed to get a good long look at one of the varmints today (it must have been asleep) and I think you're right ... a leafhopper it is. Thanks very much and sorry for doubting you before. |

Hi Little Digger, Leafhoppers (Jassids)are not a major disaster on ornamentals. The only time they are a real nuisance is on certain leaf crops because they blemish the leaves that they suck on. Dee. |
