| I have got a wattle tree in my garden which is about ten years old. Just in the last day the base of the trunk is covered with close to about a hundred or more hairy caterpillars. It looks as if its something out of a horror movie. I have no idea where they have come from. Is there anyway I could save my tree as I love the beautiful yellow flowers it produces. |

| These darn things love white cedars too and seem tocome from nowhere to attack mine, wrap an oil and insectacide drenched rag round the trunk, stops them going up the tree. and don't be tempted to squeeze them, you'll itch for ages,I shook a tree with them in and had them all over me,yuk. |

| Bad news, Your wattle will die soon anyway, as they are only short lived (around 10 years). I would plant a new one near it, so it will take over when your existing tree dies.(after you chop it down!) |

| they sound like Saw Fly Lavae they look like caterpillars I had some at the base of a tree in my garden and I gathered them up with a stick and torched them with Metho and a match,obviously not in fire ban season. |
