White moth caterpillars

We had a news report about these pests last week. They can make your pets ill. One of the more affluent suburbs now wants to remove all the Cape Lilac street trees. If they don't the problem will get worse. We have them here too. There are plenty other street trees they can replace them with far more suitable. Wonder if their council will subsidise residents who remove trees from their gardens? Hmmmmm

RE: White moth caterpillars

Hi Annabel The common name you used (Cape Lilac), totally threw me. You are referring to Melia azederach. Again given a very confusing name here in Queensland where it's often referred to as 'White Cedar' although it has no relationship to the family of Cedars. They are very prone to attacks from caterpillars and black cockatoos. The caterpillars can be easily killed by the use of Carbaryl at 30gs wettable powder to 4.5ltrs water. HTH teddy,J
