Grasshoppers!

I have a potted herb garden and it is being infested by grasshoppers, both green and brown ones. Does anyone suggest anything to get rid of them? Is there anything that I could grow to deter them?

Much Appreciated
Marg

RE: Grasshoppers!

Hi Marg there seems to be a plague of the little blighters here at present I have the green and the dark coloured ones. I take so many off by hand as I dont like to use chemicals, sometimes I dont see any for days, then they are back again. Have a look at the link below it may help as there are a few herbs there you can plant to deter them.
Cheers...MM.

RE: Grasshoppers!

Hello Margie,
I just stumbled on this site and saw your posting about grasshoppers. Have you tried making a "tobacco tea" and spraying your plants? Most insects hate tobacco. I buy a pouch of tobacco and place in a large pot full of water. Bring almost to a boil and strain. Put the "tea" in a spray bottle and spray plants as needed. I usually put the tobacco in an old sock and let it steep like a tea bag. Instead of a spray bottle, you can also use a sprayer on the end of your water hose, but if you do, you will need to make the "tea" extra strong.
I hope you find it helpful.
Hoyt
