Agapanthus wilting

Our Agapanthus are looking very sick at present - wilting and the stems are very soft, almost like they are rotting at the base. We have treated for an infestation of mealy bugs that now appear to have cleared up. The garden is also infested with common garden slaters - could they have any effect?
The new growth is comming through but has a white powdery substances (similar to the Mealy bugs) on the leave. They then die off.

All suggestions appreciated.
Regards
Peter

hi there your agapanthus certainly has mealy bugs.. they may even be in the root system and that is why you are having trouble killing them... try a mix of confidor mixed in water and drenched over the plant and into the roots.
the wilting will be a root disease , ease up on the water and feed with seasol spray with a product called yates anti rot..... also

damo

The slaters will definitely not be a part of your problem. They are not a garden pest. They feed only on decaying plant matter (like rotting leaves and such). I think damo is on the right track.

I have just found out that slaters do eat some greenery, but only small new shoots at ground level like new seedlings. I don't think that these are your particular problem though. Dee.

Slaters can be a more serious problem, they've eaten through ferns and I've got ongoing problems with Slaters attacking new foliage in palm trees. They've killed off a few young trees before I could control them (using various pesticides) and I'm struggling to find a way to control them on taller trees that I can't get to the tops of very easily .... any suggestions ?
