I have seen a lot of centipedes in my garden lately, I kill toads and snails but usually leave frogs, snakes and lizards etc. alone.Have they a usefull function in the garden?

RE: Centipedes-friend or foe?

I would just leave them to themselves. Thankfully, they are not the kind of critter you would find in your bed (unless you sleep outside on the ground). I have only ever found them in moist dark places under logs, etc. According to some Google sites, they can bite if mishandled but it is no worse than a mild bee sting. Centipedes eat insects and in turn birds eat them. So I guess they are not really a foe of the gardener. More fearsome-looking than fearsome, 'tis said.
