hi all i have a problem with a mature lemon that has no fruit and alot of woody growth a suspect from the lemon tree borer, the older growth has alot of small holes around it
so waht can be done to controll this problem if any, or is amatter of cutting the tree and strarting again?
will the new tree be infested with time?
if i prune back the tree will the new growth be infested?
is this a sistemic or soil born problem?

I have revitalized two lemon trees that were nearly dead and were full of borers. They had been neglected for water and fertaliser, and thats when the borers get in,when the tree is stressed. I fed and watered the trees, they are covered in new fruit and shoots,I still have some dead wood to remove tho. This was on a block I had leased,if it was at home I would probably plant a new one. |

Hi Phillman, Why not plant a new Grafted one nearby, that will give you some fruit in the near future while you try to save the old one. I have found to try to revitalise an older, neglected citrus is a big ask, as once the main trunk and roots are neglected to a certain point, the tree cannot regenerate new roots and leaves and you are only harbouring the bugs or disease that may transfer to your other trees. Sometimes the cost of treatment can be more than the cost of a replacement. Good luck. Peter r |
