lemontree losing leaves, rest is yellow

Hello,

lemontree lost most of its leaves within the last few days, the rest is quite yellow.
It got one or two gallwasps, rest of the invested branches I took off, but these ones are quite major, might kill the tee. Heard I can cut into the knots?
Anyway, looks like lack of nitrogen? Or, too much water the last few years and now it became dry the last few days?
Any advice appreciated. The grass around the tree does not look like it lacks water or nitrogen though :-(
Here some pictures:

Got a small orange tree which is not in a hurry to grow, but it does fine.

If the tree has been in waterlogged soil (not sure it has)it would be surviving on the shallow roots which would make it very susceptible to drying out.
Lemons are quite big feeders they are going to look sick a long time before the grass under them suffers.

Citrus, keep the soil well drained, give them plenty of water, make sure they get NPK and trace elements (any form you like, organic or not)

And then you may still lose them to Armillaria or Phytophthora.
