Yucca plant - leaf damage

I have a yucca elephantipes placed in a sunroom where it is obviously getting substantial light and direct sun. I bought this rather large specimen about three months ago and have watered it once a month. I have noticed in the past few days that many of the leaves have black spots up to 5mm in diameter that go right through the leaf - on the underside of the leaf the edges of these spots have tiny droplets of a honey coloured liquid. A local garden centre said it is most likely stress from the plant being indoors and to relocate it outside - could be but any other ideas ?

I put my indoor plants out side under a tree for a while, they also go out on the back decking when it rains maybe that is what it needs. My Yukka lives outside in a huge pot it is not the same one as yours, and has no spots on it. Are you giving it the right amount of water, just remember no plant was meant to live indoors all the time, so put your indoor yukka outside for a time in the warmer weather it should make a difference.

Mine is exactly the same!!!

My Yucca has bee living outside for almost 2 year now and has grown really well and is doing great. But every now and then it gets the black spots on the leaves that go right through as you say and then on the underside there is honey like droplets.

I have had to spray them to get rid off some of those little white bugs with the furry butts. There is also a type of spider that seems to like making flat cotton like webs on them but I can't actually see whaty is making the black spots and sticky stuff.

Photos avail. Have several mature/large Yucca plants. Don't a great deal about them, but they are low-maintenance evergreen shrubs. These are not the spiny/cactus type; they are soft leaved, and have fragrant cylindrical flowering stems. They are striking and would look great with grasses. The an be divided and propogate easily as well. I know they are frequently grown indoors, but these are quite large to very large/tall (few to several feet tall) and would only be appropriate for indoors if divided and placed into large containers. TRADE: I am a completely novice gardner but finally going about the task of doing "something" significant in the yard. Interested in trading for mature plants: 1. cover needed for long 4 ft fence, so evergreen shrubs that are not a lot taller than 4' at maturity and/or climbing vines/plants 2. herbs 3. open to other flowering plants or interesting ground cover!

Sudden leaf damage in tomato plants

It was late in the day, I'm guessing mid 70s maybe. I saw damage prior to the first spraying. My 'yellow' tomato plants all look shot. The krims were huge and the center seems gutted in a big way. A horticulturalist thinks it is a fungus and I'm awaiting a call from Cornel co-op on their opinion, too. This morning was the first morning that the plants were not covered in dew. What strikes me as odd is the white tomato plant has long thin stems and they were 'sagging' badly yesterday. Today the stems feel much much firm and are more upright. I'm wondering if the Torre tial downpour of a week ago and then 3 straight days of high heat and humidity is the root. The local co-op said there were no reports of blight locally, but about 75 miles to the northwest.

I bought mine about 4 or 5 years ago, I splurged about $45 on it to go in that special corner in the courtyard, thats spending a lot on one plant for me. It was a Monrovia plant named Yucca rostrata 'Sapphire Skies'. The spider mites ended up being a blessing in disguise because its better with the bottom trimmed up. It was easy to cut the leaves off with a steak knife, you can do lots of leaves at a time and it only took me about 45 minutes, the leaves are thin and pliable so the tips don't stick you. I had to do it again this year because it got red spiders again and had a big dead looking side up by the top before I discovered it, who'd of thought they'd attack it in winter while my back was turned? I hope once it reaches a tall enough height to clear the top of the wall, the air circulation will help prevent this problem, they can reach 18ft. I saw one recently here that was as tall as the second story window at a house. I had no idea they got that tall and came home and googled and yes, its possible. They are hardy to 0 degrees and I read it will grow in as low as zone 5 & 6 around Denver. It needs good drainage but otherwise its not picky about soil. It is hypnotic watching it move in the wind, the leaves all move together and it reminds me of a musical instrument. So far it has never bloomed but the powder blue color is decorative enough by itself.

I have a yucca silver star it lives in a pot on the deck it has black spots what do i do about this my friendly garderning friends

I have the same problem and came across this information:

Watch your yucca plant or signs of anthracnose of agaves, a fungal disease that causes lesions on leaves and red to orange spore masses. Remove affected leaves at first sign of infection.

Check your yucca plant often for signs of spotted mites, which leave tell-tale gray webs under leaves, as well as tan or gray speckling on the plant. Spray the yucca plant with insecticidal soap to control the mites; you can also discourage them by misting your yucca plant frequently.
