tomatoes - rotten bottoms

| My tomatoes - roma, egg, gross lizze etc, doesn't matter what type, are growing beautifully, until I discovour rotten patch underneath pieces of fruit. What is causing it, what can I do. (apart from picking when still too green) |

| Is it a black patch on the base of the fruit? If it is then it's probably blossom end rot. It's not caused by any pest or diesease, it's because the fruit can't uptake enough calcium while it's growing, and it's made worse by irregular watering. I noticed I get it when it's very hot. Try to keep an even moisture supply to the tomatoes, mulch them, and if your soil is too acid you might need to add some lime to the soil. |
