Hi
Has anyone grown DELPHINIUM from seed.
What methods have been successful?
Can you recommend a good source for seeds?

Thanks

You usually see packets of mixed colours, (pink, blue, white and lilac), where ever seeds are sold. If you haven't grown them before, you could always try a punnet of seedlings. Unfortunately, most seeds and seedlings do not produce the big double flowers usually shown in the photographs.

I grow the wild species form of Delphinium elatum every year from seed. YOu want to know how I do it? I do NOTHING. They come up by themselves all over the place. I love plants that look after themselves.

The big Delphiniums are best grown from crowns. A few years back I was given a BOOT-LOAD by a commercial grower who was thinnig his rows and planted them in my garden - then we moved - so alas no more gorgeous Delphiniums. The grower died and I don;t think the buyer of the house kept them because I noticed a tennis court, where my flowers had been. Sad Saga, but if you can get crown, you'll be rewarded. I might check and see if the nursery still exists.
Cheers
