| I am wanting to grow an Echium (Madiera). I am in Brisbane, and wonder how it will go with the humidity etc. Also, where would I find one? Can anybody help? |

Echium fastuosum (syn. E. candicans) 'Pride of Madeira' is a mediterranean type plant, so I'm not sure about growing it up there. Perhaps someone else will be able to advise you better. Cheers, Dee. |

| Hi Gremlin:: I dont grow one myself but they are in my " Tropical and Sub-Tropical Gardening book" by Harry Oakman's also pics of them in my "What flowers when" by Harry Oakman's they flower in October. Suppose to do well in sun or shade needs little attention, showey for about six weeks, propagated from cuttings or division. I would just ask at any Nursery and if you cannot find any, put a post in our Gardening Exchange all freebie's there you just pay for postage..And I will keep my eye opened for them for you as well...Hope this helps Cheers..MM. |

| They are grown in the Brisbane botanical garden at Mt Cootha (Down the path from the main entrance gate amongst the scented plants) If you want a plant try Perrotts at Enogerra who may have one or go to Toowoomba and check out the Nurseries there. Robyn |

| I bought one at a nursery on Tambourine Mountain when I was up your way a few years back. |

hi, I bought seeds recently from www.oztion.com.au It's a fairly new auction site but its free to list so is fast growing and friendly. There is a nursery on there called Burrendong gardens, very friendly, very cheap. They have all unusual type seeds. http://www.au.gardenweb.com/forums/load/peren/msg111832252419.html?4 This is the actual site for their sale in 2 days of Echium candicans seeds Pride of Madeira 20 seeds for $3 Another place I've seen them advertised is Diggers Gardens but everytime I tried to buy they were sold out. It has been a few years though Good luck. |

I do apoligise for a mistake I just made above. It is Beadrix and not Burrendong that have the echium as you will see if you follow the link. I have bought from both sellers & have found them to be excellent. I'm madly buying & planting at present , thats why I've made the mix up. Both sellers are worth a look |

| I'd suggest checking ebay. There are some people selling them on there. |
