Crinum bulb????? silly questions ...

Hope someone can help with a couple of silly questions ...
I bought a crinum bulb. I know absolutely nothing about them.
The bulb has a shoot about 5cm long. The instructions say to plant it to the neck of the bulb or something. I read something that menntioned a depth of 8"??? How much of the green shoot should be above the soil or should I just make an educated guess?
Are they fussy?
The shoot isn't growing straight up from the bulb, but at an angle (from being restricted in the bag it's packed in). Should I plant the bulb straight up (in which case the shoot will be off to an angle), or should I plant it so the shoot is straight up and the bulb is planted crooked? Or dosn't it matter?
Thanks a lot everyone. |

| Ignore the 8" thing. Picture the bulb as a person's head, then it is easy to work out what the neck is. Basically, cover only the head, leaving the neck above the mix. Crinums are fairly tough, so provided it doesn't rot from being planted too deeply you shouldn't have too much trouble with it. I think I'd tend to plant it 'right way up' and encourage the growth to head in the right direction somehow. Pam |

Thanks Pam - I'll plant it tomorrow. I'm glad it's a toughy. |
