Camellia - Droopy leaves

I have a camellia on my verandah in a tub wine barrelon the south side of my house, it doesn't get direct sunlight but what i would call light shade. I have had two of them for 4 weeks and have been giving them weekly waterings and fortnightly feeds of a combined charlie carp/seasol mix. The leaves are still green and shiny, but just droopy, am I over loving them????

RE: Camellia - Droopy leaves

Despite the weekly waterings, are you sure they aren't thirsty? Once potting mixes dry out, they can be very resistant to moisture - the water just drains straight through with no retention.

Have a bit of a dig down into the mix and see what life is like down there.

Another thing that can happen when plants are repotted into a larger container is there seems to be a line of reistance between the old and the new mixes - the new mix may be damp but the original mix, and the rootball, remains dry.

Just for curiosity, I'd put the hose on a slow drip, position it near the trunk/stem and leave overnight and just see if this makes a difference to the drooping leaves.

You will also find that when new growth is coming on, some of the older leaves will droop before falling off (not sure how long a camellia leaf lives for - a couple of years I think) but if this is the cause of your concern, only some of your leaves will be drooping.
