It would be better if plant was potted in a well draining mix. They are often grown in peat or soil that has most of it, and that isn't best for plant. Get a bag of perlite, sift some, and mix with Cactus & Succulent soil, in 1:1 ratio. Expose plant to much more light (gradually if in low light for a while), maybe even consider some supplemental lighting. It should be much more compact and if you give it more light, it will be. If the inner pot fits tightly into decorative pot, it may sweat and that isn't best. When watering, take pot with plant out, water and let drain any excess water before putting back. I would say at least 0.5hr or so.

That is a severely TRADITIONAL kitchen design & not transitional with the raised panel doors, columns & arched cornices. The glaze on the cabinet makes it even more traditional in style. See the examples below. Traditional solutions all.

The stairs look to be from the late 1800’s, but a picture of the outside of the house would be more useful. You also need an expanded question because I can’t tell if you want to know how to repaint or if you just want to know the name of the style of your house. Please don’t listen to anyone who tells you to rip out the original railing to “ modernize” the hall. Those of us who love and own old houses retain the original features because of the monetary value and the esthetic value those details add to our lives. Restore, not remodel is the word. Research the colors that were used when your house was new and pick colors in that range. For instance Craftsman, Victorian, shingle style, colonial will all have different hues and undertones. It is up to you to preserve the ambiance of the original while making it fresh, clean, and comfortable for you and your family. With an old house, there is no rush until you have researched. You are a caretaker of history. In everything we do to our house, we judge the results against the vision of the original owner/builder. I would hope he would be as comfortable in the dining room today as he was when he himself sat at the head of the table.

Thank you all so much for your responses. So although the doors do open into the entry, that was expected and OK. The part that was a problem is that, with the cabinet doors closed, the cabinets extended beyond the entryway by one inch on each side making the entry 2 inches smaller (from 31.5' to 29.5'). In the plan I approved the entry way is clearly 31.5 inches and the cabinets do not extend into that space.
